Job Description
Data Engineer

Office Location(s):  Klausdalsbrovej 601, Ballerup, Denmark

Do you enjoy turning raw data into something that actually tells a story — maybe even one with a rich plot and a compelling narrative? Does the idea of working hands-on with a fresh, ambitious and huge data setup in Scandinavia’s biggest insurance companies sound like the kind of challenge you’d like a dive into? If so, keep reading — something good might be waiting for you!

For nearly a decade, Tryg has been shaping a unified foundation for all customer data across the entire Nordic business. The goal has been to bring countless systems, countries, and processes together under one shared data model. It’s been a long journey filled with bold ambitions. The result is a modern, powerful setup that we’re now using for everything from deep analytics to operational solutions. For a Data Engineer who wants room to create, explore, and push boundaries, this environment offers exactly that.

The Role | Data Engineer

Your main responsibility will be to build what we call “data products” — dedicated datasets and databases designed to serve specific purposes. Sometimes your job will be to structure and deliver the data foundation, and the receiving teams will take it from there. Other times you’ll also shape the way the data gets consumed, whether through reporting, marketing tools, or other downstream solutions. In other words: success isn’t just about producing clean, well-modeled data; it’s about making sure it’s used to create real value.

Because of that, you’ll frequently dip into the systems that either generate or consume the data — such as our Tag Manager, CDP, or various web analytics tools. Any experience in these areas is a big advantage.

Your work will focus on our digital touchpoints. You’ll help us make better use of the insights we gather from Tryg’s websites and ensure that data from other systems can feed into them meaningfully. Several long-standing analytical challenges are waiting for someone with the right mindset to crack them. Among other things, we want clearer visibility on how visitors move through our digital channels, and how these journeys translate into business outcomes. For example: What happens when someone calls us after browsing the site? Can we spot what a user is trying to achieve when they first arrive? And how can we convert that knowledge into better customer support?

About You | Curious, structured, and comfortable communicating

Key qualifications:

  • Strong experience designing and transforming data — especially using SQL, Trino, and DBT.
  • Familiarity with core software engineering practices such as version control, automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Ability to present data in a way that answers the important questions clearly, reliably, and without ambiguity, as well as understanding what the important questions are in the first place.
  • Understanding how website data is collected, ideally backed by practical BI/data engineering work with datasets originating from an online context.
  • Practical experience with tag management, web analytics, CRO, or A/B testing/analytical statistics is a definite plus.

You’re comfortable taking somewhat vaguely defined business questions and turning them into workable, real-world data backed solutions. You work with energy and self-motivation, thriving under a management regime that promotes individual responsibility and doesn’t necessarily always tell you what to do in detail. You speak English or at least one Scandinavian language fluently.

To thrive here, you should enjoy analytical problem-solving and be willing to learn new tools and concepts including some difficult ones. We are looking for someone who naturally takes initiative, communicates well, and approaches tasks with a helpful, collaborative mindset.

A relevant education is welcome but not required. What matters most is your capability — not the degree on your wall.

The job is an onsite-job with the option to work from home a few days a week. You must be qualified to take up permanent residence in Denmark and to work in Denmark.

About Us | Nordic Web Analytics & Martech

You’ll join a small team of four specialists who support the entire organization with online-data-related tasks and marketing-tech solutions. We report to Tryg’s Data & Analytics division, which develops and maintains the company’s data infrastructure.

Our working style combines a strong sense of responsibility with an eagerness to build and improve. People who thrive here are those who take ownership, seek out new challenges independently, and work through obstacles with persistence and creativity.

You’ll be part of a broader professional community that includes many highly skilled data experts. Tryg is a large organization with plenty of opportunities for growth, and for the right candidate, this role offers significant potential for professional development.
