Software Engineer

Passionate about quality software, data, and innovation? Want to be part of shaping Tryg’s future? Then we would like to hear from you. Come and help us create value out of data and build our new data platform!

Why Tryg?

This is the perfect moment to join us as we intensify our focus on the digitalization and innovation of our services and business processes. Data is an incredibly important asset for Tryg, and you will put your mark on the platforms we develop.

You will be part of a dedicated team of top professionals implementing Tryg's strategic ambitions which are based on an extensive data architecture. You will receive a great deal of personal responsibility together with broad opportunities to learn and expand your knowledge.

About the role as Software Engineer | Help us build innovative solutions

Tryg has a long tradition of working with data to understand risks. We are now taking this experience to the next level and expanding our activities to many different customer-centric initiatives. As data from the customer touchpoints is scattered in a series of different systems, we are building a data platform to obtain easy, purpose-driven, and secure access to data. Due to the high data volume, we run large-scale high-performance applications – this comes with new and interesting problems, which require innovative solutions. Solutions we want you to help us build!

In your role as our new Software Engineer, you will focus on building and maintaining the core of our data platform. We expect that you will be able to learn new technologies autonomously, while also collaborating with other technical and non-technical colleagues to design and implement solutions. We strive to keep our tech stack modern and occasionally switch out components as we discover better technology, however our current tech stack consists of:

  • Kubernetes and Operators
  • Kafka (Strimzi, Flink and Kafka-Streams)
  • Golang (primary), Java, and Python

We use the event-sourcing paradigm heavily, in a wide range of use cases both covering current state and historical data. As the environment is highly dynamic, we emphasize a focus on individual learning, which is critical to succeed in the role.

The engineering team collaborates closely with management. Said management is highly technical and all have software engineering backgrounds.

About you | Computer Science or similar field

We imagine that you have a background in computer science (BSc required in Computer Science or a similar field, Master is preferred) as well as written and verbal communication skills in English.

Knowledge and experience with the following are desirable but not required:

  • Distributed systems
  • Stream processing (ex Kafka / Flink)
  • Databases, relational and/or NoSQL
  • Software performance optimization techniques
  • Experience operating software in production

The shortlist of required qualifications reflects that we are not looking for someone who is necessarily a specialist. We are on a long journey, with challenges we cannot yet foresee, so we are looking for smart, curious, and talented individuals to help us solve very difficult problems.

We imagine, that you are an individual who enjoys working on hard unsolved issues and has the high agency to do so. You are comfortable working both alone and in small groups. You expect to be given problems to solve rather than solutions to implement. You are able to present and iterate on designs with the team, and when it comes to implementation you value easy-to-read code of high, but not perfect quality.

Send your application today or no later than 5 December 2023, as we’ll be conducting interviews continuously and close the process when we have found the right candidate.
